Games I Played in 2026 - The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

Console: N64 Developer: Nintendo EAD Release Date:  October 26, 2000 The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask  is an action-adventure game with a focus on puzzles, sidequests, and time management. As one of the last first-party games on the N64,  Majora's Mask  is surprisingly complex mechanically, featuring a 3 day time loop with NPCs that all have their own schedules and multiple interweaving yet simple sidequests and events. Though technically a direct sequel to  Ocarina of Time  that even reuses a majority of its assets,  Majora's Mask  feels like its own unique game, not just from it's predecessor but the rest of the series. While I had played a fair bit of  Ocarina of Time  before, I only first finished it  about two years ago ; despite being a huge Zelda fan, I had never played  Majora's Mask , but seen a friend play it and watched videos and playthroughs on it before. Therefore, this was pretty exciting for me: playing...

Games I Played In 2024 - The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch)

Console: Switch Developer: Grezzo Release Date:  September 20th 2019 The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening  is a top-down action-adventure game that centers around exploration, puzzle-solving, and combat. A remake of the Game Boy original of the same name, Link's Awakening  is a pretty faithful remake, adding quality of life updates but keeping the essence of the original essentially intact. I wasn't too familiar with Link's Awakening ; I am far more familiar with the two Game Boy games of the same vein that came nearly ten years later:  Oracle of Ages  and Oracle of Seasons . In fact, I had never even come close to finishing Link's Awakening , so this was a rare occasion for me to play a Zelda game I had ostensibly never played.

Games I Played In 2024 - The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Console: Switch Developer: Nintendo EPD Release Date: May 12th 2023 The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom  is an open world action-adventure game with survival and RPG elements that centers around player freedom, creative puzzle-solving, and exploration. The sequel to the universally acclaimed The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild , Tears of the Kingdom  does something heretofore unseen in the Zelda franchise: it is a direct sequel that uses the first game as a base, including its map, mechanics, and narrative. My biggest concern was that it'd just feel like more Breath of the Wild  and not feel different enough, and my fears were abated as the game's marketing carried on.

Games I Played In 2024 - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Image
Console: Nintendo 64 Developer: Nintendo EAD Release Date: November 23rd 1998 The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is a third-person action-adventure game with a focus on an open world, puzzles and simple combat. Ocarina of Time needs no introduction: it's widely considered one of the greatest games ever made, is very likely one of the most influential games ever made, and... it's a game I'd never played start to finish before this year. I'd always stop somewhere around the third dungeon of the game.
